My First Experience With Projectile Baby Spit Up

Mabel has done pretty well lately and last night was probably the smoothest night so far.  We’re still bottle feeding her breast milk all while still working on getting her to latch correctly at the breast. So, with a smooth night under my belt, I was thinking today was going to be a piece of cake!  And it pretty much was. She fed and slept every two hours until around 1pm when she woke up and didn’t want to be put down. That sneaky little girl falls asleep in your arms and whenever you try to put her down she instantly wakes up.  She already knows how to work the system, lol!  Anyway, she was hungry again around 3pm and I gave her almost 3 ounces in breast milk from the bottle (she eats a ton!).   She happily drank that and at the very end with about half an ounce to go….BAM….it happened. I had taken the bottle out of her mouth and then she erupted.   Like a volcano (maybe I’m exaggerating a little), Mt. Mabel spit up milk all over herself and me.  I sat there kind of shocked and dripping with milk all while this little girl looked pretty content with herself.  She of course needed a bath and since her belly button is still healing, a sponge bath had to do.  At least now my little girl smells like Johnson’s Apple and Honey Baby Wash. 😉  Needless to say both me and Mabel survived.

*If you look closely, you can see the chaos!*

Yep, I definitely took a picture of spit up clothes.
Once again, another lovely event to welcome me into mommyhood.
*WooHoo!  We’re up to #20!  Click and help keep us there!*

Maybe try smaller amounts at a time. 3 oz is a lot at once for her tiny belly. Plus if you feed an oz at a time very often she will be able to go back to the breast easier.

Wow, 3oz is a LOT of milk for a little baby. Their tummys at this stage are still so small. I hope you can get breast feeding back on track. It will be so much harder to get her to latch again if you keep feeding her a bottle for all her meals.

Hey ladies! Thanks for the comments. Like I said in the post it's close to 3 oz, but not that much. My lactation consultant said she could have anywhere from 2-3 oz, so don't worry. 🙂 She's okay. It's also due to how much weight she lost in her first few days of life, she lost 10oz in just 3 days due to her 'tongue tie'. She's just catching up. 🙂

As for breast feeding, I have another consult tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed for us! 🙂
