Q and A with Artist and Momma: Lisa Barbero

Lisa : )

I’m so happy to introduce you all to my lovely sponsor, Lisa Barbero!  She’s an artist who has been published, a writer and a momma!  I always love getting to know other moms who can do so much and have such creative talents!  Lisa’s art is unique…like nothing I’ve ever seen before.  Her prints have a vintage twist to them and have so much depth to the point where I found myself looking at them and wondering about the stories behind them.  Lisa’s prints range from gorgeous cityscapes, to abstract prints, to nursery art.

Lisa was nice enough to let me come up with any questions I wanted to ask her for the blog post so that you all could get to know her!  Enjoy!  🙂

How did you originally become interested in art?
A: Believe it or not, when I was 4 years old and I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said “an artist”. Art and creating has always been something I was interested in and once I realized I was sort of good at it too (somewhere around the 7th grade or so) I dove right in and never looked back.

Where do you find your inspiration?
A: I get inspiration literally everywhere. I love typography on billboards, old photos, quirky characters, raw line (like doodles), interesting color combos, textile patterns, and the list could go on. I never really know where I am going to get inspired. Oh, and I am definitely drawn in by work that has an element of being hand drawn – where I can see that a living soul had to be responsible for creating the piece. I find that quality very inspirational.

Do you have a favorite piece of artwork that you’ve created? Why is it your favorite?
A: I really love some of my more recent pieces like “Be Brave for Love” and “Shine On”. I feel like something new is happening for me in these pieces – like my style is transitioning a bit or something. I love how they make me feel (which is why I love any work of art). When I look at them I get a sense of hope, romance, whimsy, and faith that everything will always be alright.

You’re a mom in addition to being an artist…can you tell me more about your family?
A: I have a 13 year old girl and a 2 year old boy. They both keep me on my toes for different reasons but thankfully they can also keep each other occupied. lol. I’m also fortunate enough to be married to my perfect partner who has never failed to lift my spirits and light up my life. Cheesy, I know. But, I have to admit that I don’t think I would be making art successfully now if it weren’t for him and his belief in me.

I see that you also wrote a book…wow, you’re one busy mom!  How do you balance it all?
A: Well I wrote Counting Down (http://www.amazon.com/Counting-Down-World-Story-ebook/dp/B008KPHDQ6) back in 2008 before my son was born. I took me some years to get it edited and polished up and I was finally able to make it available to the public this past July. So far, it’s sold well and already has 18 reviews with a total of 4.7 stars out of 5. It’s very exciting and my husband and I are currently working together on the sequel.
