Universal Studios Vacation: Part 1 – The Counting Crows

Me at the Hard Rock Orlando

My husband and I spent the last three days in Orlando at Universal while Mabel was enjoying some time with my mom.  We’d never been to Universal Studios so we were pretty excited!  Over the next three days I’ll do posts on the resort we stayed at, the theme parks and in this post, I’ll talk about the concert we went to!

As you can see in the back of the photo (above) we went to the Hard Rock on the City Walk.  If you aren’t familiar with the City Walk, it’s the surrounding area immediately outside of Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.  The City Walk is full of restaurants like Margaritaville, Emeril’s, the Official Nascar Restaurant and more.  There are also bars, nightclubs and a movie theater (we saw Looper there and it is a very nice theater, probably the nicest I’ve been to!).

Anyway, back to the Hard Rock.  There is the standard Cafe restaurant and then attached the the left is the actual concert hall.  It’s a pretty intimate concert hall with standing room only on the main floor and some seats on the second floor.  They did a really good job and getting people through security quickly and there wasn’t any waiting.  Bonus in my book since the last concert I went to was in an arena and it took forever to get in/find out seats.

This was our view:

There were a decent amount of people and it was a good show!  The band sounds exactly like they do on their recordings.  So I was thrilled about that since nothing is worse than going to see a concert to find out that band sounds horrible live.

Breaking out the piano for Long December

Overall, it was a really fun night (we hadn’t been to a concert since we had gone to The Mile High Festival in Denver in 2010).  The Counting Crows didn’t play all of their old school hits, which I was a tad disappointed by since I’m not as familiar with their new cd…but the songs were still really good.  If you have a chance to see them live, I highly suggest it and don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post to find out where we stayed and what my thoughts were!

Hi Morgan! Was wondering how the drive was for Mabel? We’re considering a 22hr road trip when our youngest (of 3 kids) will be about 9mo’s old. We’d stay overnight once about 3/4 of the way. Any tips too?!

That is a great idea for a post! Let me think about what worked best for us/and Mabel and see if I can get it organized enough to write about it! 🙂
