One Place That I Don’t Like…

via

When I even look at this photo I cringe.  I really, really….really don’t like the dentist’s office.  And guess who has to go to one tomorrow?

Me.

I’m way overdue for a cleaning.  And I blame moving and being pregnant for putting off my exam.  Lol, I guess I have to own up and realize I had just been putting it off because I hate going, not because we moved or that I was pregnant.  And now…I HAVE to go since I believe one of my fillings is cracked.  I’m not in a lot of pain but I want to take care of it because with my luck my if I were to put off my appointment any longer my tooth would probably start killing me on Christmas Eve.  Then I’d be completely out of luck for any help.  :\

Ugh.

Here’s the real kicker…for some reason here in Delaware, offices have to see you for a cleaning and xrays before they’ll even schedule you to come back to fix/get a filling.  For real…I have to have two appointments in a matter 2-3 weeks?!  It wasn’t like this in Colorado or Texas.

How much worse can it get?  Watch me say that now and I’ll end up needing a root canal or something crazy.

So why did I put off going to the dentist?  Well, for as long as I can remember, even when I was a little kid…every time I would have a dentist appointment I would feel like I was getting a stern talking too from anything ranging from flossing to getting my wisdom teeth taken out. How many times do I have to tell them I’m not planning on getting my impacted wisdom teeth broken out of my jaw anytime soon?!

I don’t like sitting in the chair (you know, that awkward moment when it’s slowly reclining you back, ha!), someone poking around in my mouth, being asked questions when I can’t respond since I have tools in my mouth, having ice cold water shot on my teeth…and that really grainy toothpaste they use to clean your teeth.

Also, I think I have an inferiority complex at the dentist’s office tooI mean all the hygienists always have perfect teeth and the most white teeth I’ve ever seen in my life.  Mine aren’t so bad (I had braces twice as a kid and had the most horrible headgear that I had to wear at night) but they won’t ever be perfect ‘dental hygienist’ teeth, lol.  And if you’re a dental hygienist reading this…I’m jealous of you and your beautiful teeth.  🙂  And the fact that you probably get an endless supply of free floss, mini mouthwashes and toothbrushes from those goodie bags you always get when you leave the appointment!

Wow…do I have dentist problems or what?  Am I alone in these feelings?

Wish me luck tomorrow!

Hahahaha that post made me laugh! ALL soooo true. The slowly reclining back, too funny! And perfect teeth and perfect skin, it is annoying 😉 in a totally jealous kind a way!! Good luck mañana 🙂 btw I went to the dentist a couple weeks ago only because I too had broke a filling!

And of course my hygienist had gorgeous teeth, lol! 😉 But she was awesome! I still haven’t gone back to get to filling resealed since they said it wasn’t an emergency but I had a very positive experience at the dentist (for the first time ever!).

I had to start using Sensodine (sp?) toothpaste a few years ago since my teeth were soooo sensitive when it came to cold things. It’s helped a ton!

I dislike the dentist, as well, for the same reason! I call it my semi-annual guilt trip…I swear, I could tell them I flossed ten times a day and they would still tell me I’m not doing it often enough (the reality is, I almost never floss and as much as I want to be obsessed with oral hygiene, I’m not)… and more often than not, though I’m not proud to admit it, I end up lying to them just to ease the lecture a little.

I’m honestly still in disbelief that I actually had a good visit! Apparently there are some awesome dentists out there that don’t lay on the major guilt trip, lol! I even told the truth about my flossing habits and they didn’t lecture me! 🙂
