What a Difference a Coat of Paint Makes

All taped and ready to go!
*Before* –  All taped and ready to go!

A little over a week ago I posted ‘No Home Sweet Home – At Least for a While?’ and talked about how I was a bit sad that our current home will be the last home we own until my husband gets out of the Air Force.  And in combination with my main New Year’s Resolution of getting organized..I decided it was time to do something about how I’ve been feeling!

I had a burst of motivation and I decided to run with it!

I decided to paint.   And by doing so I was getting organized and enjoying our home before we have to move again.

And this was a pretty big deal since after painting the guestroom and Mabel’s nursery in 2011 I have vowed to never paint again, haha!  I hate taping before I paint (I have to since I’m not good at free handing…I’d have paint all over the place!).  I was also pregnant while painting both rooms (don’t worry, I was using the safe/no fume paint) and that was not a good combo.  I was grumpy with absolutely no patience!

Now I’ll tell you that yesterday’s full day of painting wasn’t easy…I had several moments when my life flashed in front of me when I lost my balance and almost fell from the ladder.  But I caught myself…so I’m all good.  I also realized that the house had settled and the lines were a tad hard to tape since nothing was 100% level…and I spotted all those little ‘fixes’ that the previous owner had half-assed (sorry, but that’s the only word that truly says it).  Like seriously?!  Where the heck is the decorative screw cap that was supposed to cover the light fixture…not sure how the guy lost that!  But I guess you only notice something like that when you’re on a ladder looking at an angle that I’ll never be standing at again since I don’t plan on ever repainting, lol!

So we went from dingy white walls to beachy blue:

Sorry for the mess…I’m still cleaning up all the cleaning supplies.

This was a pain to paint…

Hubby likes it…he says it makes the room feel ‘fresher’ and I’m pretty happy too.  We still have decorating to do, so I’ll post those pics when I get finished

Success.  It feels pretty good.

And now I’m even more motivated to get the house in order and organized!  I’ll be painting the master bedroom next weekend!

And stay tuned tomorrow for a nifty painting trick that I so wonderfully discovered on Pinterest awhile back.  😉

What are you motivated to get done in the near future??
