My First Adventure With Gel Nails

Before I had Mabel, I ALWAYS had my nails painted.

And then I had Mabel…and they never get painted anymore.

If I ever have a free moment give myself a manicure (like when she takes naps), my nails are never dry by the time she wakes up…which of course results in little dings and nicks.Β  πŸ™Β  Also, now that I’ve constantly got my hands in water washing sippy cups or submerged in a tub during Mabel’s bath time…the polish cracks or chips within 24 hours.

So I gave up.Β  Why paint them if they are going to get messed up?

Recently I heard about doing gel nails at home but I didn’t think I was skilled enough to attempt it. Β  Couture Nails was going to prove me wrong and they were kind enough to send me their Gel Nail Polish Kit to try out.

I’m not going to lie…this is the most excited I’ve been to ever receive a package.

Couture Gel Nails

Salon quality curing lamp, base and top coat, and 3 colors of my choice were included in the kit!

Couture Gel Nails

Carrying case and nail kit (there were some extra pieces that I didn’t have displayed).

In addition to the lamp, polishes, carrying case, and nail kit, I got a very detailed set of instructions and a DVD to help me out.Β  Since I don’t claim to be a nail expert, the instructions were greatly appreciated!Β  πŸ˜‰

To simplify the directions for the sake of not having you read a super long blog post, basically I filed my nails to the shape I wanted, pushed back my cuticles, and then took an emery board to gently file the top shine from the surface of my nails.Β  This step is key!Β Β You have to make sure you make the tops of your nails a bit rough so that the gel polish adheres correctly and lasts a long time.Β  Then, apply the base coat, gel color, and then top coat…putting them under the curing light in between each coat of polish.Β  The last step is wiping your nails with rubbing alcohol or Couture’s Cleanse solution.Β  Then bam, they are 100% dry and ready to roll!

Honestly, the whole process took me about 45 minutes.Β  I think it will get quicker as I get better with the whole process.Β  It also doesn’t help that I’m a perfectionist and have to take my sweet time on everything I do, lol!

Check out my nails…and be nice, lol!Β  I not a nail polish blogger (oh boy am I jealous of all the Pinterest nail pros!) and I don’t know how to photograph my hands without them looking like alien fingers:

Couture Gel Nails

My nails in ‘Bubble Bath’.

Sorry for the blinding sun on the ‘Day 11’ side…but how great do my nails look almost 2 weeks later?Β  No chips and just as shiny as the first day I painted them.Β  No bumps or nicks either…and no toddler can ruin these nails.Β  πŸ˜‰Β  I also love how with the gel polish on, it made my nails feel thicker and stronger!

These gel polishes will last on your nails for up to 21 days…which is pretty awesome since regular polishes can’t last 1 on mine!Β  I’m also a huge fan of Couture Nails because their polishes are made in the USA (and you all know I love my ‘made in the USA’ products!) and they are free of harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, toulene or phthalates.

AND there are over 75 color choices!!!

Couture Gel Nails

I really can’t speak highly enough of Couture Nails and they have a new customer in me!Β  It’s nice to be able to treat myself to a manicure that I know will last for a good while.Β  Gel is now the only option I’ll consider!

I highly suggest you check them out and let me know what you think!

Couture Nails was kind enough to send me this product to review.Β  My opinions and thoughts are 100% my own and I would not post a product that I do not believe in and use myself.

I do gel nails on myself at least every two weeks! I love it and have been hooked since the fall. Seriously so worth the money and SO simple.

We call it nail shellac here. I love it! Been getting it done since last summer. The color I have on them now has been on for almost 3 weeks and still looks great. Minus the out growth, lol. I’m for sure hooked πŸ™‚

I’m the SAME way with my nails. I almost always mess them up before they’re dried. I recently bought the Sally Hansen gel polish kit and did a post about how much I love it.
