Weekend Roundup (4/28/13)

Our weekend started on Saturday morning with Mabel sitting in a bin.

Mabel sits in a bin with Tater the pug

I promise you that the room had been tidy until Little Miss Mabel decided it was really fun to pull everything out of her new toy chest.  She even thought it was neat to sit in the storage bin.  And her sidekick, Tater the pug, looks like he was tired from trying to keep up with her…

Later that afternoon, we decided it was time to take a trip to Bed Bath and Beyond.  Dover is a little town (I can’t wait to move) and doesn’t have any good shopping so our closest BBB is about 45 minutes away….off to Newark we went!

Upon walking in the doors, I smelled that familiar Bed Bath and Beyond scent.  How had it been a year since I had been in a Bed Bath and Beyond?  Oh yeah, that’s right…we don’t have a BBB in Dover because Dover has absolutely nothing.  Lol, can you tell that I’m not a fan of where we live?

After spending a few minutes with a sweet old lady who thought waving at Mabel was adorable I remembered what I don’t like about Bed Bath and Beyond…the aisles are too narrow!  You can’t get around anyone and if someone leaves and unattended cart in your way, you’re stuck.

Anyway, I found what I was looking for and we headed to the checkout.  And BAM, Mabel decided it was time to have a meltdown when the checkout guy tried to make her laugh.  Next thing I knew, everyone in line was staring me down.  Seriously?!  I can understand staring at me if you don’t have any children but a lot of these people had their teenage kids next to them.  I guess it’s been too long for them to remember this type of situation which I guarantee you they had to deal with at least once with their kiddos.

She stopped crying as soon as I picked her up from the cart and the looks from other customers stopped.  Good grief…I’ve never felt like such a bad person for not even doing anything wrong.  People need to cut parents of little kids a break every once and a while…

But it was all worth it:

Red Kitchenaid Stand Mixer

I haven’t decided what I’m going to make first yet but it will either be Focaccia bread (The Pioneer Woman’s recipe!) or some ice cream!  I have a giant pinterest board full of ice cream recipes that I plan on making…I’m not sure if my diet has much hope now.  And here’s a money saving tip…if you sign up for Bed Bath and Beyond’s email list, they email you a 20% off coupon and it doesn’t exclude KitchenAid items, so you can use it on a mixer.

And the last thing I was up to this weekend:

triangle crib quilt

I apologize since it’s not the greatest picture but this will be Mabel’s new crib/toddler quilt.  So far, I just have the top part of the quilt done.  I had seen a similar quilt on Pinterest and figured I’d try it out.  Um, this sucker has been tricky!  I mean it’s simple to cut triangles out but I have this issue with trying to be perfect when it comes to sewing and if something doesn’t line up 100% it drives me nuts.  I can’t tell you how many seams I’ve ripped out and re-sewn over the past few days.  I’ll post photos when it’s completed.  This style quilt will also eventually be added to my Etsy shop…completely customizable when it comes to the colors!

I’m trying to get some ideas for recipes I should try with the mixer!  Do you have any suggestions?!  Please share!  🙂

That’s an awesome deal!! I think with the 30% off it would have brought mine to $280…but we had a ton of gift cards for Bed Bath and Beyond so it pretty much made ours free. Nothing beats that! 🙂 I can’t wait to use it and the ice cream attachment!

Oh man, that 1st meltdown in public is the worst! LOL. At least she stopped crying after being held. 😉 Love love love the quilt. It came out fabulous! I also vote foccacia bread!

I forgot to mention for you to use the dough hook, and let the mixer “kneed” until the dough becomes smooth.
Also try washing the metal attachments by hand they tend to get cloudy when put in the dish washer=(.
