Mabel’s Closet Makeover

“This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Home Depot & Rubbermaid, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #AllAccessOrganizers http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.”

This past weekend I had one mission:  organize Mabel’s closet and get rid of extra clutter in her room.  I’ve found that before having her, I went a little overboard with buying her things and then on top of that we got lots of gifts.   I took the lazy way out and just stashed everything in her closet.  This is a habit I need to break but isn’t it soooo much easier to ‘clean’ that way when you’re a super busy mom?  Lol!  Anyway, I need to stop doing that and get better with organizing.

When I was walking the aisles of Home Depot this past weekend, look what I found:

Ta-da!  The solution to my organization problems!

Until recently we’ve only owned regular storage tubs that are a solid color.  Because of this, I can never remember what I put in them in the first place.  It’s also difficult for me to get inside very bottom tub when they’re stacked…yikes.

Rubbermaid now makes All Access Organizer totes that come in vibrant colors and have a clear side that helps you see what you’ve stored.  The clear panel doubles as a door too (so no more pulling containers off of one another to get to the bottom one)!  I thought these would be perfect in Mabel’s nursery and were the inspiration I needed to finally take the first step in tackling her closet chaos.

So let me show you what I was working with…

Mabel's Cluttered Closet

See…I’m guilty of just shoving things where they’d fit.  🙁

The first thing I did was go through all of the items I had at the top of the closet and the odds and ends shoved at the bottom.  I figured out what Mabel no longer needed and put them in a donate and a trash pile.  That got rid of a lot!  What I decided to keep got folded and put into the wooden shelves or was neatly stored in my new All Access Organizers.

I decided the best way to use the organizers was to store Mabel’s blankets and quilts in the bottom one and then her little stuffed animal buddies in the top one.

They can be stacked…

And because they can be opened from both the top lid and the side clear door, it’s easy to access the items whenever I need to.

Or whenever Mabel needs to.  🙂

And she kept going and going until all of her friends were out to play.

Apparently she didn’t understand that I was trying to organize, haha!

Mabel even figured out how to open and shut the clear door…so now I have to start working on teaching her how to help cleanup (who has suggestions for me on how to do that?).

Want to see the before and after shot?  Well I’ve got it covered:

How much better does that look?  It was seriously so easy that I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner.  My only regret was not buying a third organizer since three would have easily fit in the leftover space.

Now I just have to figure out what room is next on my mission of organization!  There are soooo many rooms these organizers would work in…especially the garage.  BUT that’s hubby’s job so I’ll put him to work on that and just sit back and relax.

Do you have any rooms in need of being organized?  Which rooms?  How would you use these All Access Organizers?  I’d love to hear some ideas…leave me a comment! 😉

Okay, now I want to organize Alea’s closet! Her’s is next on my list and it could really use a little love. I’ll probably buy MORE of those awesome bins for her closet, too. They’re easy enough for her to open and she’ll be able to see what’s inside as well. I LOVE them! Mabel’s closet is looking amazing! Thank you so much for the inspiration!

Oh this looks so nicely organized. I love that your daughter could easily open the bin on her own – My kids would love this – and I think it would help with clean up as well.

Love these Rubbermaid bins with side doors! I like to stack my bins, and so every time I want to retrieve something, I have to unstack the bins. This process can often be a real pain. The very convenient side doors will make it so much easier to access items in the stacked bins! Thanks for your eye opening review!
