Bad Things Happen In Threes…

I’ve always heard the saying that bad things happen in threes.  And I thought it was bogus until this weekend…

Bad Things Happen in Threes
Washer water lines that I thought had been frozen…

Let me start two weeks ago…some of you probably read about me complaining about frozen pipes in our house due to the extremely cold weather we’ve been having here in the Mid-Atlantic.  Well…turns out the pipes weren’t frozen but that our washing machine was broken (it’s not even 3 years old…don’t buy a Samsung!).  This of course entailed calling out a repair person which of course resulted in $200 in charges.  Not terribly bad…it could be worse I thought.

A week later I noticed our upstairs heating unit was making odd sounds so I figured call the repair guy to check it out just in case.  The first guy I called tried to say I needed a whole new unit (I nearly started crying right away since he said it would be $7,500)…long story short, the whole situation was a bit sketchy and I got a bad vibe.  I felt like he was trying to scare me into buying a new machine telling me it could die any minute and then we’d be left without heat.  Men who think they can pull a fast one on me just because I’m a woman and have a toddler in my arms really piss me off.  So it was time for a second opinion.  Next guy politely tells me the first guy must not have known what he was talking about and the issue wasn’t anything with buying a new unit.  Parts are now ordered and prepped to be installed this week.  Our savings account is now an additional $2000 lighter…um, where’s the money tree because this gal didn’t plan on two things breaking in one week!

The evil fridge

Two days later we notice our 3 month old garage fridge/freezer combo isn’t working.  All the food in the freezer is worthless but thank goodness all the vodka in there wasn’t damaged by the freezer going out (because I’m seriously going to need it if one more thing in this house breaks)Good news is that it’s still under warranty and won’t cost us anything to be fixed; another repair man is coming out tomorrow.  But there is bad news too:  my husband made a frozen pizza from that fridge the night before it died on us.  Sounds okay, right?  Well, he spent Saturday violently ill due to presumed food poisoning…turns out the fridge/freezer had been turning on and off for a lot longer than we had thought.  Poor Hubby.  He’s okay now.  Thankfully I only ate one slice and didn’t really get sick and Mabel didn’t eat any of it.

I’ve just got my fingers crossed that bad things don’t happen in fours…

We’ve actually had nothing but good experiences with Horizon. 🙂 They helped us out when our hot water heater blew/flooded our kitchen last fall.

Horizon can be really wonderful- most of the techs are amazing and they get ongoing training. Disclaimer, I also worked for Horizon in the office for awhile(and we still use them). Just saw the price and thought, “Yikes, that’s a little high…sounds like a price from Horizon.”
