16 Weeks And Bumpin’ Along

Though I’ve felt generally more uncomfortable this pregnancy, it seems to be going a lot faster than my first.  I can’t believe that I’m already 16 weeks pregnant (16 weeks and 2 days to be precise)!

16 weeks pregnant with second baby

As I said on instagram, I’ve determined that I carry babies like beach balls unlike those women who carry their bumps as cute little round bellies.  Lol, there is nothing I can do about that!

For those of you wondering, in 16 weeks I’ve gained a total of 9 pounds already which is at the higher end of normal weight gain but I attribute that to having to eat out a lot when we were living with my father in Maryland and in the hotel while moving.  We’ve been doing a lot better with cooking at home and I’ve been happily making better snack choices.  But overall, I’m not trying to focus too much on weight gain but I just figured it was something I would address in the update since I haven’t done one in a few weeks.

We also had our second appointment at our birth center yesterday, you know…just the normal stuff like testing sugars and proteins in urine, weight, getting to hear the baby’s heart with a dopler and just talking about my overall pregnancy with the midwife.  I’ve had the joy of having crazy headaches (no worry of preeclampsia since I’m technically too early for that and my blood pressure is normal).  I get them about 4 days a week and it’s NO FUN at all.  Apparently some women just get them a lot and my midwife told me that hopefully they’ll start diminishing since I’m getting further from the first trimester and to not hesitate when taking Tylenol for them.

Let’s see…what else happened at the appointment:

  • I got my blood drawn for the 2nd trimester screening (which wasn’t fun since the lady doing it took the blood from my wrist and it hurt like crazy!).
  • I was talked to about how to properly travel safely with my baby in car seats (she told me that they had to hand the paper out to everyone even though she was sure I already knew how to use a car seat with Mabel, lol!).
  • The midwife brought up cloth diapering and gave me more info (I’m still not interested in doing that though…sorry to all my cloth diapering readers!).
  • She also talked to me about placenta encapsulation…yeah, I know there are going to be a lot of ewws on that one and I thought it was pretty gross the first time around with Mabel.  BUT call me crazy, I might actually consider it this time due to the benefits of boosting your milk supply and stabilizing your hormones = less likely to deal with post-partum depression…been there, done that, hope to not do that again.  So…we shall see.

Vlogs are still on my mind but I just can’t seem to find the extra time to get my camera out and do editing.  Plus it requires putting something on other than pjs and slapping some makeup on (I’m so lazy!) But I will try soon!

AND for those who are wondering…we should know Baby #2’s gender on the 30th!  I’ve already heard from a handful of you that you already think it’s a girl (I’m kind of leaning that way too).  So place your bets!  😉  I’ll share when we find out!

I am a placenta encapsulator. It sounds crazy and gross but it is an amazing part of a woman’s body. Think about it: your body’s hormone level is triple or more by the time you have baby. When you deliver the baby and placenta, those hormones rush out with them and your body is shocked. This is why a lot of womens struggle with PPD, their body is so confused. Encapsulating the placenta allows you to wean your body back down slowly and gently over a few weeks or months time making the transition much easier for everyone. I would love to answer any questions you may have. My oldest is 7 days older then Mabel and we are expecting our third 🙂

HA HA, cloth diapers are SOOO easy!! and the prints are do die for! Seriously, join the dark side! 😉 I think you should do the placenta encapsulation if you’re up for it. Since having Mia I have 2 friends who have had it done and swear by it. I plan on doing it next time as well for the added benefits. So exciting to be 16 weeks already!!

Please we need vlogs!! That’s how I found you originally and this baby deserves vlogs too 🙂 It’s such a pain to do, I know, but you will be so glad you did later! I know you are a perfectionist, but they don’t have to be edited or perfect – you are so good at doing them we will love any of it even if unedited. Really miss seeing them

We tried cloth diapering and it just wasn’t for us. I would much rather just use a bio-degradable diaper like Honest Co and not worry about having to strip diapers and all the stuff that comes with cloth diapers.

As for what you are having, you are having a baby! LOL.
