19 Weeks + Anatomy Scan

I hit 19 weeks on Sunday and we had Baby #2’s anatomy scan yesterday!

19 weeks pregnant - anatomy scan

Mabel looked excited but she had other plans for us yesterday….more on that later.

Anyway, I opted to do the Quad Screen at my last appointment (a simple test where they take a sample of your blood to determine whether you are at normal or elevated risk for carrying a child with chromosomal abnormalities).  My midwife had told me they would call me if my my numbers were elevated…so no news is good news.  I never got a call and found out yesterday my numbers were all within the normal range.

As with Mabel’s pregnancy, I feel like I tend to be stressed until after the anatomy scan.  I mean pregnancy in general is stressful but I feel like after the anatomy ultrasound there is more peace of mind.  I was looking forward to a nice appointment with both Mabel and my husband…BUT Mabel decided that wasn’t going to be the deal.

She cried the hour and a half to the office.  She cried the entire appointment, so much so that my husband had to miss the ultrasound and sit with her in the car.  And she cried all the way home.

Seriously…these terrible twos can stop now…but I’m not sure if any relief is in store anytime soon.

Back to the appointment…my ultrasound tech was awesome.  She took her time and pointed out all the things she was looking at and measuring (the lady that did Mabel’s was all business and never once explained to us what she was looking at).  I saw the heart, stomach, bladder, kidneys, limbs, brain, and spinal cord.  The neatest thing was probably looking straight down Baby #2’s spinal cord…I had no idea they could do that.

Baby #2’s report = looking good and healthy!  Yay!

Only complaint is I got 2 ultrasound pics and both were not post worthy.  Unless I could explain things, you wouldn’t know what you were looking at, lol!

Oh and she’s still 100% a girl.  🙂
