Get Your Smell On

I’ve used baby products by JOHNSON’S® to care for my little one as a part of a sponsored post for Socialstars.  As always, my opinions are 100% my own. #johnsonspartners #SoMuchMore

Yep, you read the title of this post correctly…get your smell on!

Smell is your number one sense linked to memory…and honestly there are scents that I can get a whiff of now and remember a moment from all the way back in my childhood.  It’s pretty crazy.

For example:  as soon as I get back to Maryland and can smell the salty air, I know immediately I am close to where I grew up and memories flood back to me of spending time on the water/being at the beach.

Now take this bottle of lotion:

I bet almost instantly your brain can remember the scent of Johnson’s baby lotion without even having it in front of you.  And if you’re like me and you randomly happen to get a whiff of it, the first thing that pops into your head is:  a cute, tiny, fresh, and happy baby!

Cue the cute and chubby baby:

We have a nightly routine of Millie getting lotioned up and massaged.  Most of you already know of our nightly battles with colic but I feel like having a routine of massage at least helps to calm her.  Plus it gives her something to expect and enjoy.

The power of baby massage is real people!  😉  Who can deny the positive impact of skin to skin touch babies receive when being in contact with their caregivers?  Plus it’s shown that massage is critical to a baby’s development.

Now I can just hope that giving Millie some extra skin to skin time might help with her sleeping better during the night, hence our nightly massage routine.

And we keep it simple (who’s got time for something complicated?!).  We start with her upper body…

Then down to her legs…

Simple!

She seems to enjoy it and her dry skin needs the extra moisture too (quick tidbit:  a baby’s skin loses moisture almost two times faster than an adults, yikes!).  Since Johnson’s baby lotion is hypoallergenic, has no parabens, and no phthalates…I feel comfortable using it on her delicate skin on a daily basis.

If you’d like to learn more about the power of touch and smell when it comes to your little ones, check out Johnson’s So Much More campaign.  The site has tons of great ideas and advice from taking care of your newborn to play and learning ideas!  PLUS, there are coupons too!

Do you have any scents that instantly send a memory flooding back to you?  Or do you have a special nightly routine that you do with your little one(s)?
