Let The Postpartum Hair Loss Begin

I thought I might have escaped the postpartum hair loss this time around…my fingers were crossed!

But my scalp said: “fat chance!”

postpartum hair loss

Well…that’s just a stock photo, not my actual hair.  BUT it sure feels like that much hair is coming out of my head.

It all started right around week seven after Millie’s arrival.  I was shampooing like normal and then I noticed that strand after strand were left in my hands as I was rinsing the soap out.  I was envisioning the drain instantly clogging.

Then I went to brush my hair later in the day and more and more hairs were coming out in the brush.

Even later, after taking my hair down from the top knot I had it in…even more hair came out.

And this has been a daily occurrence for the past two weeks.  Yikes.

So I didn’t make it out unscathed, lol!  I just have to resist the urge like I did after my first pregnancy to cut my hair super short.  I made that mistake after Mabel’s birth and I missed the ease of throwing my hair into a ponytail (short hair is more work with my fine/limp hair than leaving it long with option to put it up without having to style it).

If I remember correctly, my hair fell out for about 3-4 months after Mabel was born so I’m guessing it will last about the same time this time around…And my poor husband will just have to deal with blonde tumbleweeds floating around the house.

Now, I’ll have the joy of trying to tame those little fluffy ‘baby’ hairs that grow in as replacements.  If you’ve been there, you know what I mean! 😉

Did you have to deal with postpartum hair loss?

Mine started about 5 months after I had Huds. Still have those crazy baby hairs and my hair has never been the same….totally worth it though 😉

Totally worth it! 🙂 But something no one ever told me would happen with my first, lol! At least I knew what I was in for this time around. I still need to meet your little guy! 🙂 We’re hoping to get to TX sometime soon and we’ll have to meet up!

YES! I thought I was going bald after my first baby… The second time, I knew I wouldn’t go bald, but it’s still such a bummer to have so much hair come out in your hands! Hope it passes quickly for you! My shedding seems to be the worst between 3 and 5 months. 9 months postpartum now and I’ve got the crazy baby hairs to deal with, but at least it’s growing in! 🙂

It was wayyy worse with my first…but there is still plenty of time for it to get worse now, lol! And you’re exactly right! At least I know I won’t go bald this time around…but I am not looking forward to all of those new tufts of hair! 🙂

At least now you can rest assured that it will be okay and know what to expect! I agree with you on the short hair thing; with fine hair like mine, or ours, short hair is more of a hassle than long hair. I advise just waiting it out, but also take good care of your hair in the meantime. Take vitamins, especially biotin, use products that don’t contain sulfates, etc. It will be a lifesaver!
