H2 Oh No!

I hate drinking water….yep, absolutely hate it.  My husband thinks I’m ridiculous…

I mean, I like it after I’ve been working out and am super thirsty…but in any other situation water is the last thing I would choose to drink.  I’m ashamed to admit, I didn’t even do a good job drinking the suggested amount of water when I was pregnant.  But that’s another story…a combo of massive heartburn and then just plain not liking it.  Okay, moving on…

BUT since I’ve been working on being healthier (now 9 months after the birth of Mabel) I’ve decided the time has come…I’m going to make myself start drinking the suggested 2 liters of water (darn that’s a lot!).  I try to keep my thoughts positive about this daunting task since there are so many benefits to drinking more water such as: better skin, improved kidney function, helping to lose weight by lessening your calorie intake, and the list goes on.  Ugh, but water…have you met someone who hates water as much as I do?  Lol!

So how much is two liters?  It’s roughly about two 32 ounce Nalgene bottles.  Of course you don’t need a Nalgene brand bottle but I like them since they’re pretty much indestructible and they come in a range of colors.  I have the one to the right of this post, but mine is clear and has a green lid (if you click the pic, it’ll take you to the listing on Amazon).  It cost less than $10 and I also like this variety of the Nalgene because it has a smaller mouth compared to the wide mouth bottles.  I’m always the dork with the wide mouth bottle who loads it with ice and then as I’m trying to get the last bit of water by tilting the Nalgene…the ice comes crashing down on my face (I know some of you know what I’m talking about!).

Because I detest water so much and honestly if I try to drink it too fast I feel nauseous; like I’m going to puke.  I know…sorry, tmi but I’m being honest.  And when I have good intentions, like when I fill my Nalgene and forget about it only to remember it in the late afternoon….the trying to guzzle down all the water I had been forgetting to drink during the day…and then feeling ill.  Apparently good intentions don’t always cut it.

My new plan of attack (thanks to several pics on Pinterest):

Makes it easy to make sure I’m on top of my water drinking all day!

It’s basically to help put me on a timeline to evenly spread my hydration throughout the day.  Seriously, how simple is this?  And it took me having to see photos on Pinterest to think of it (I wish I would have come up with it, lol)!  All I did was to take a sharpie marker and write my schedule on it, basically fill it once and follow the left side, then fill it again and follow the right side.  🙂  It’s easy to change the times to fit your schedule, like if you get up earlier than I do…just start with an earlier time!  Some ideas on Pinterest used two bottles, but why use two when one will do?  This way I’ll never be left at 8pm with a whole liter still to drink.  Just brilliant!

I used to hate water too. Everytime I’d try to drink it, I’d gag, or it’d take me over an hour to finish one bottle. Then I got kidney stones from drinking too much soda and I knew I had to do something. I started off by putting those flavor packets in until I completely stopped drinking soda. Eventually, I stopped putting the flavor packets in and now I am in LOVE with water! I even crave it! I also learned that it’s easier to drink it whenever I eat. So trust me, coming from someone who also hated water and would drink a ton of soda, you can do it!!

I have also seen AND pinned this from Pinterest, but still have not taken the initiative to implement it in my daily routine… You have JUST re-motivated me to GET ON IT! Thanks 🙂

I have repeatedly read that it is not true that we “need” to drink so much water. We get fluids from other foods and drinks as well as from drinking water “straight up.” ONE litre might be an entirely healthy and realistic goal! For more info: http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp

Of course, other foods and drinks aren’t zero calories… but we can’t live off of water. 🙂

I too am not a big water drinker, but have found that if I drink using a straw, I drink WAY MORE. I wound up buying one of the Trenta sized tumblers from Starbucks. It holds 31 oz, and I am amazed how quickly I drink a full tumbler. My co-worker counted last week that from 8:30am until 11:30, I filled it 3 times.

I was just going to comment that drinking through a straw I drink way more water too. I have a 32oz Breast Cancer Research bottle and I’m amazed how fast the water disappears.

I don’t like drinking water either–would rather have a diet Pepsi. However, as a nurse, I know this is not good for me and water is the best drink to put into my body. I put my bottle of water in the freezer and get it slushy. It tastes better to me that way and I can drink more. When I go walking, the night before, I put my bottle of water in the freezer 1/3-1/2 full in the. Then the next morning, I fill it the rest of the way up with cold water. I then have ice cold, slushy water while I’m walking. Just an idea. Thanks for info.

I hate water just as much. Thanks for your honesty. I tried drinking the flavored waters and ended up getting more acid reflux. So, I’m going to try this method. Thanks again.

I have always had a hard time with getting my water every day until I started putting a splash of Vita Coco in every glass. Now I love it and have gotten off the dreaded diet drinks (except for an occasional splurge). LOVE my coconut water!

I just wanted to say that I am the exact same way about drinking water! I totally know what you meant when you said you physically feel sick if you drink too much too fast! My husband laughs as I shudder trying to get 8 oz over with! Lol, love the water bottle idea, I think I could pull that off!

OMG! Someone else who hates drinking water. I thought I was werid. My hubby keeps pushing to it. I am trying but it’s not working. I may try this and see.

Does the sharpie wipe off or come off after so many washes? And where on the bottle do you place the time marks?

    • Morgan says:

      Hi Lexie,
It depends on if you wash it in the dishwasher or by hand. I found that constantly sticking it in the dishwasher, I eventually did have to touch up the numbers because they were fading. As for where to put the numbers, I just eyed it and tried to put them as evenly as possible on the bottle. But it’s up to you to pick the times…people have told me they didn’t want to be drinking as late as I had mine so they just changed the times/spacing accordingly. 🙂

I’m definitely intrigued by this. My problem always comes down to not having the bottle with me all day and then I’ve missed three hours! If I carry it with my my kids drink it!

Does this bottle sweat? I love my 32 oz water bottle but it sweats terribly!! So far, I’ve been unable to find any type of coozie for it. Suggestions??
