I Put My Life Out There For All To Read

via

I was hit by a train tonight.  Not an actual train but a message from a reader with words that slammed me.  This isn’t the first time I’ve had comments that have surprised me (I’ve gotten a handful of not so nice comments on YouTube) but this was the first time that I got ticked off from one.  Basically, I was bashed for my last video of Mabel eating green beans (Mabel hated them and gave a ‘yucky’ face which resulted in her throwing them up) and was told that I’m a horrible mother.  Pretty rough stuff, right?

As a blogger and vlogger, I put my life out there for tons of people who don’t know me to read and get to know me (as good as you can through the online world).  And by doing so, I’ve met a ton of really cool ladies and moms out there who have offered me tons of support, friendship, and good advice.  But I began thinking of the flip side to the coin…I put myself out there and there is also a chance that others will take advantage of my openness and judge me for it.

I don’t claim to be the perfect mother and I do my share of posts explaining it.  I’m me…my husband is my husband…and Mabel is Mabel.

I don’t hide my imperfections.  I don’t hide my mistakes.  And no, I won’t be mother of the year.

I think that it’s easy to judge others in the online world when you don’t know them.  Would the lady who wrote the message say those things straight to my face?  Maybe…or maybe not.  I truly do feel that it’s a shame when mothers judge one another and I’m sure a bunch of you can relate to that.

Do I bring it upon myself?  Possibly since I put it all out there in the first place.  But I’ve found that honesty is just easier for me.

And let me put this out there…I love Mabel more than anything.  She’s. My. World.  And I hope that one day she can look back on my blog and be proud of me for not being perfect.

And truth be told…If I ever get to the point where I think I’m perfect or have the nerve to send a nasty note to another mother implying that I’m better than her…I hope I get a big smack back to reality.

And much love and thanks to you ladies on the Facebook page for all of your kind comments.

For green beans?!!! I’m sure she probably feeds her kids junk. My little girl is almost 9 months and she’s only had fruit, vegetables, pulses and grains, we do a mix of baby led weaning and homemade purees
i love your blog, i think you are doing an awesome job and i’m sure the person that gave you such a hateful comment is jealous that you do the BEST you can for Mabel.

  2. Colleen says:

This is SO true! People can sit behind their computers and judge all they want…it only shows their poor character. Nobody is a perfect parent, perfection is boring! You love Mabel, she loves you, and that is enough!

  3. Anna K. says:

The mommy judging is terrible. You are a great mommy and the best mommy to Mabel.

I Totally agree with Colleen. No one will ever be a better parent to your baby. Period.

  4. Rachel A says:

Don’t let her nasty words tear you down or change who you are! You are a great mommy! I have twin boys and I know how challenging it can be! Hold your head up Modern Mommy! You are doing a great job!

Don’t let her get to you! You are doing a great job! Some people are going to come along and think they’re the best mothers in the world… Most of the time if you look at their children, they are also the most unhappy children. I also wanted to say i love your blog! I’m also a military wife 🙂

I’m not a mom, but have worked with kids for years, including helping raise my little brothers.
One thing I have noticed is this, the ones who say, “MY kid will never do that” “You are a terrible mom” and other such comments are the ones who do not have kids.

  7. Lorraine says:

Don’t take any notice of the haters Morgan. It’s just a sign that they are jealous of what you have and who you are. Your a wonderful mum and Mabel is an amazing little girl. xxx

  8. Lauren says:

I’m not sure if I’ve ever commented but I feel the need to now! You do what you think is best for your Mabel and therefore are mother of the year! You do your best that is all that should matter!

  9. Amy says:

What’s right for one family, may not be right for another. You’re a brilliant mother!!
It’s normally the case, that someone can judge you when typing on a computer. I don’t think she’d dare to say it to your face.

The green beans video was hilarious!

Dont feel bad – here lately I have been getting all kinds of horrible comments on posts from my husband’s ex wife and her family all because I included his daughter, my step baby, in a blog post about our new baby. Some people seriously are sick minded and want nothing more than to make others as miserable as they are. I understand how floored you are, so am I that people would go out of their way to pose problems in someone else’s life. Keep your head up!

I find it disgusting that someone would say those things to you. I think you are so brave for putting everything out there for the world to see, and I know I appreciate it because it gives Matt and I a chance to see Mabel grow up which we normally wouldn’t be able to do since we are so far away. Mabel is happy and healthy, and at the end of the day that is all that matters.

I can’t believe someone took the time out their day to message you about something so ridiculous. What a hater. lol, Mia gagged from Avocados and of course stupid me I just kept trying hoping she’d get used to it. Lesson learned. She did not. Basically same scenario as Mabel with the green beans. And if some mother out there called me a bad mother for that I’d seriously tell her to check herself. In no way shape or form does our children throwing up from trying new foods make us unfit mothers. UGH, I want to message that snatch who sent you that awful email! lol. She needs to get a life and pay attention to her own child instead of worrying about yours. And I totally agree with the ladies above that you are VERY brave for putting your life on display for everyone to view and I’m so glad you do because I always enjoy seeing new posts. Especially since Mabel and Mia seem like they’re going the same pace with most things, it’s fun knowing Mia isn’t alone. ;P

  13. Emily H. says:

Well I for one am glad you put your life out there to read. I just stumbled across your blog the other day and it is adorable! I love your personality and parenting style and I cant wait to go back and read previous entries and future entries. Keep up the good work. You are a good person and good mom! Anyone out there attacking someone over green beans is nuts. 🙂

  14. Trina says:

I’m only 17 weeks, but I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now. I can’t believe someone had the nerve to judge. I follow your blog because I appreciate your honesty. It helps for me to relate to as I go through this for the first time.

  15. stitchgirl78 says:

Mabel’s first experience with green beans was exactly that – a FIRST EXPERIENCE. And, like so many parents, you caught it on video. No parent anticipates a new food will make their child vomit, and you certainly didn’t feed her the green beans to make her vomit. You’re a loving, caring parent! Don’t allow others opinions make you question your parenting. Ignore the negative, and keep doing what you feel is right for you and your family.
