I’m a WAHM (Work At Home Mom)

If one doesn’t think being a mom makes your life busy enough, you’re crazy!  I’m currently a SAHM (stay at home mom) and chose not to go back to teaching (I may eventually go back once Mabel is old enough to go to school).  And I made this decision because I didn’t think I’d be able to part from her yet and because I thought the stress of being a teacher would drain me, now allowing me to be at my best for Mabel.  But, for the past year while pregnant and now, with Mabel, I wasn’t liking not being able to ‘contribute’ to the household income.   My husband assured me that if I needed anything, such as clothes or other items, he would get them for me.  But, I’ve always been Ms. Independent and enjoyed making my own money.
In the online mom community women are always asking about work from home options, and I’ll admit that I got swept up in the commotion.   I started finding lots of ideas and suggestions, and most I figured out were either scams or would be ridiculously hard to make any bit of money off of.  Most of these options revolved around working for a larger company like Scentsy or Avon (both of which are good options but being that it seems like almost every military spouse does one of these or something similar, there are already a ton of people who sell them in the area that I live).  Same thing goes for selling fitness products such as being a Beachbody Coach or selling Body By Vi (I don’t even pretend that I’m healthy enough to sell health products, lol!).  Another option that pops up is blogging.  Well, I don’t blog for money nor do I make anything off my blog.  I’m almost convinced you have to be a fancy shmancy political blogger or super popular celebrity blogger to make bank, ha!  Now, I make a tiny bit off of YouTube, but I call that diaper money.  It’s normally enough each month to buy a decent sized pack of diapers…woo hoo!
Since none of these options were panning out, I thought I might jump on the Etsy bandwagon.  Didn’t seem too hard to set up a shop and I figured I was crafty enough to at least give it a shot.  I figured there wouldn’t be too much to lose if the shop crashed and burned, lol!  I really enjoy making quilts…so that was that.   And the name of the shop came easily.  Mabel has been my inspiration lately and she’s a sweetie = Sweet Mabel.
The shop has been up for almost 2 months now and I’ve had 11 sales, which I’ve been thrilled to have.  I pour my heart into each item (everything is baby and child related) and am truly happy to have this opportunity to work from home and enjoy little Mabel at the same time.  Now my ‘salary’ is nowhere near what it was when I was teaching, but it’s a comfortable amount.  🙂
If you are thinking about working from home, know that it can be done!  Don’t expect to get rich but there are plenty of opportunities that you can do all while staying at home with the kiddos (or kid!).  My best suggestion is find what you love to do and think of a plan on how you can make it work for you at home.
Do you work from home?  Leave me a comment and let me know what you do!

Your quilts are so gorgeous! I'm definitely want to purchase one from you once we start thinking about putting Clara in a 'big girl' bed! Which, I have a feeling, is going to be much too soon!

Thanks for sharing! I left my full time job when my son was a year as it nearly killed me to be away from him. Now I run a Fitness company and am able to work while my husband is home in the evenings/weekends. It's not always easy, but I agree that I just really didn't want to be away from my little guy during these first few incredibly important years!

\wish I could quilt like you. I am a working mom for the last 2 years and I love working from home, being able to see my children and take of them and at the same time can do my household chores. It’s a blessing for me.

Love your blog site! It’s pretty amazing how much we have in common. I too am a military spouse and am finishing my education in early childhood education. My husband is transitioning into retirement soon. Preparing for another anticipated move, I will be transitioning back to a WAHM with my current part time WAH business. I look forward to following your online success!!

Ladies, I am a stay-at-home mom with an infant and two 2-yr olds at home all day. If I can do this with 3 little ones to care for, you can definitely do it too!!! So, here is my recent success story with stay-at-home income! Through a friend’s recommendation, I became an independent consultant for Jamberry Nail Wraps a couple months ago. Within 2 weeks, I had already earned back my $99 joining fee. From that point on, everything I have earned has been profit. If you are not familiar with Jamberry Nails, I recommend taking a look at my website: tarahickey.jamberrynails.net. Long story short, it’s the type of business where you can sell these hot/trendy/fashionable nail wraps through “Facebook parties”, “In-home parties”, or directly off your website. (Don’t let the personal website intimidate you. All consultants are automatically set up with a website so you don’t have to be into computer stuff at all to do this successfully.) This is a perfect way to earn money from home without interruption to family/kids/life. It costs $99 to join the company, which includes a bunch of samples, materials, set-up of your own personal website, etc. (If you visit my website tarahickey.jamberrynails.net and send me a message, I would love to email you the full details on joining, including details on commissions, $$, etc) They give you all the “tools” needed to succeed. Please feel free to “google” the company, it’s 100% legitimate. You get paid weekly. I have several friends now in the business as well. **The best part about this business is that these nail wraps almost sell themselves. Just by wearing them, I have had people get interested, buy the product, and even join my team as a consultant. Besides earning money from your personal sales, you earn a percentage of the sales from people “on your team” or “below” you. (Also, although there are hundreds of designs, you don’t have to stock “inventory”. Product is shipped directly to the purchaser) I just wanted to give you ladies at least ONE real life example of a business you can do from home. Please go to my website and message me if you are interested in any further details!! Thanks, Tara tarahickey.jamberrynails.net
