Mabel’s First Boo-Boo

It happened…Mabel’s first boo-boo.

ouch!

Here’s how everything went down (literally)…Mabel was standing by the tv, lost her balance and grabbed for the subwoofer box as she fell.  She ended up hitting her lip and as it happened I swear to you, time went in slow motion.

Hubby and I couldn’t get to her fast enough and as she looked up after she was on the ground, blood was dripping from her mouth.

I freaked.  How bad had she hurt herself?  Did we need to go to the ER?

Thankfully Hubby stayed calm and grabbed our first aid kit to help little Mabel out.

She was crying like I had never heard before and my heart was breaking.  My poor baby girl was hurt.

After a few minutes of fumbling over a cold rag to hold against her cut, a few tears on my behalf, and some antibacterial wipes…we were able to see that Mabel was okay.  She had two cuts…one under her lip and one on top of her lip where she had bitten it.  Nothing was deep and her teeth were okay…but seriously, with the amount of blood all over my husband’s shirt, I thought she was going to need stitches.  Thank goodness it wasn’t as bad as I originally had thought.  And as you can see on the right side of the photo above, she was in good spirits an hour later (with the help of some baby Tylenol).

This was her this morning…sporting her first fat lip.

ouch!

I still feel horrible.  I mean, there was no way of preventing it…little wobbly babies will fall and I can’t wrap her in bubble wrap to prevent all future ouchies.  I think her boo-boo might have hurt me more than her.

Gosh, am I going to cry when she gets her first skinned knee too?

Poor baby girl! My youngest was 10 months when she got her first boo boo, like Mabel lost her balance only she instead literally nose dived. Lots of blood, two black/blue eyes, swollen and bruised nose. Made for great first Easter pictures! She cried a lot for her first accident but rarely does now. She somehow ripped a toe nail off and we didn’t know about it because she was fine. I still feel horrible that I don’t know how it happened.

I feel your pain. When my LO got his first shots I bawled and was told that maybe I should leave the room. Thankfully my husband was there to hold him and then I got to love him all up when it was over. My husband keeps reminding me that babies are resilient.
