My Fashion Intervention – Building a New Wardrobe

Baggy t-shirts and never doing my makeup/hair. Heaven forbid someone comes to the door since I’m not answering it!

I’ll be the first to admit that for the the past seven months I have not been the epitome of fashion (not that I ever really was).  I was always jealous of the girls who always looked super cute and looked like they didn’t have to try at all to be that way!  And in high school I was always self conscious, so I never tried anything new.

This is what I live in almost on a daily basis, with the occasional variations of colored sweatpants and tanks:

My comfy pants that are now two sizes too big…plus they look like they add 20 pounds!

Yeah, pretty bad huh?

While caring for Mabel my primary concern is being comfortable but lately, I just feel like a train wreck when it comes to my clothes, lol!  I’m ready for a change!  I’ve lost a total of 50+ pounds since Mabel was born…I weigh less than what I did before I got pregnant with Mabel and I’m not ashamed to say that I can wear a size 6 or 8 which varies according to the brand.  I’m actually pretty happy about that!  I realized long ago that I will never be a size 2…and I don’t think it’s humanly possible with my body shape anyway!

I see other bloggers and their cute fashion pics and think that there’s no reason why I can’t figure out my own fashion sense all while navigating what pieces go together and what/what not to wear with my body type.  I’m 5’7 and have hips ladies!  And a short waist which complicates things!  Oh and lets top it off with a flat bottom…so that’s a challenge when it comes to finding jeans.

I’ve decided it’s time…time for a new wardrobe.  I figure I’m pretty much starting from nothing to begin with, so why not?

You might be wondering how I’m starting from nothing?  Well, this was my old philosophy for buying clothes:  only buy stuff that’s on sale and don’t spend a lot of money.  I was mainly interested in buying quantity vs. quality.  So I have a ton of cheap stuff that didn’t last (example:  I could wash something and it would come out of the dryer with a hole in it since it was cheap).  I won’t name store names of my old clothes, but I’m trying to overhaul how I buy clothes.  I’m now allowing myself to buy more expensive items that are better quality and have come to the understanding that I just can’t buy a ton of things.  The key will be to buy articles of clothing that are ‘classic’ and won’t really go out of style from season to season.  And don’t get me wrong, I’ll be on the lookout for sales and deals, but I just won’t buy anything/everything with .99 at the end of the price.  ALSO I need to start paying attention to clothing that works best with my body…not all jeans look right on every woman (but trust me, I’m staying away from ‘mom butt’ jeans!!!).

I’ll be sharing all of my clothing/accessory purchases and justifications of the purchases with you over the next few months!

My first purchase = jeans.  They’ll arrive via UPS this afternoon…so stay tuned for tomorrow to see if they fit…or if they are getting returned!
