Preschool – The Land of Germs

Preschool is the land of germs…
And I’m actually surprised that I’m surprised by that.  I mean, after teaching first grade I should have known it would be days before my house would be overrun by boogers, fevers, and puke.

Flashback to last Thursday.
We heard crying around 11pm from Mabel’s room and after checking on her, we found out she had thrown up…on her bed, on herself, and on the floor.  I thought I was puke proof but apparently my stomach is weak to the smell of vomit.  The Hubs took over.

Two hours later…she threw up again.  Poor little girl.

Fast forward to Monday and everyone in the house was sick, with me taking the biggest hit.

I had to whip out the stock photos because I’m not exactly as photogenic as this lady is when I’m ill.

I got the full blown summer head cold with body aches, major congestion, headache, and the nose that doesn’t stop running (like sitting in a giant pile of tissues because your nose just doesn’t stop and you’ve blown it so many times your poor nose is being rubbed raw).  Ugh.  That feeling goes hand in hand with feeling so gross that you just want to go bathe in a vat of hand sanitizer.

Monday night was the worst.  Hello mouth breathing.  I had a fever, felt that I was insanely cold and decided to bundle up in bed in a layer of two blankets, a sheet, and a down comforter…and I’ll give you one guess as to what happened as soon as I got comfortable…Millie woke up hungry.

Moms really shouldn’t catch colds.
Period.End of story.
I’m getting my flu shot this year.

Then at 3:30am…Millie woke up again wailing and officially sick.  The sickness had come full circle and everyone had officially been touched by the grossness.

Now it’s Wednesday.  Mabel finally went back to school, the husband back to work, I’m just starting to feel better and Millie took it all like a champ (I’m thinking that antibodies she received from me during breastfeeding helped her to not get as sick as everyone else).  Thank goodness for that!

I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that we can stay healthy for a while but I just have a feeling that preschool is going to bring more germs our way.  But I guess that’s just a natural part of going to school and building an immune system.  I’m pretty sure I’m going to add more vitamin C to her diet though…

Do you have some tips to beating colds and germs?
