The scrappiest, fat quarter friendly sailboat quilt pattern is here for you! Meet Going Coastal!

I grew up sailing tiny sailboats on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and this has been a quilt I’ve wanted to create for a very long time! The fond memories of spending time on the water helped me to design a pattern that anyone who loves the coastal way of life and using lots of pretty fabrics in one quilt will enjoy making!

I knew when designing Going Coastal that I wanted to use lots of low volume prints for the background paired with lots of prints for the sailboats. You all know me…I love including as many fabrics as possible into every quilt I make. The pattern includes options for use of precuts but is easily adaptable for use of scraps if you already have a bunch stashed away.

Because this quilt means so much to me, I added a lot of extra finishing touches to it. I quilted it myself with a 1 1/2″ square grid, I found a really fun print for the backing, and I spent extra time adding big hand stitches to the binding. I’m truly obessed!
And how could I forget?! I added a custom star quilt label block on the back of my quilt.

Forgive my handwriting…I always have disliked my handwriting but I was determined to actually label this quilt. I used my Scrap Burst Star block as the label, added the date to the star, and I wrote a bit more that wasn’t photographed because it’s just for me and my quilt to know. 😉
Now you might be wondering if you could make the Going Coastal quilt in a variety of colors…and I’m happy to say yes! I looks amazing in brights…I made a sample block in a rainbow of colors that I’ve got hanging on my sewing room wall but I also made a mockup in the upcoming Sparkle Shopper fabric collection by Melody Miller for Ruby Star Society:

I used a variety of Ruby Star Society low volume prints in the background for that mockup and it just looks soooo good! I see sewing up a rainbow version in my near future!
If you’re ready to set sail with Going Coastal, you can find it the PDF pattern over in the shop here.
