As a little kid two things ruled my life: coloring and reading books. And it seems Little Miss Mabel has taken after her momma. 😉 Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar was one of my favorite books to flip through with all of the bright colors and as a teacher, his books were some of my favorites to read to my students. So it’s safe to say I’ve been super happy to see Mabel’s interest in books soar just like mine did!
I was pretty excited when Gymboree announced their new Eric Carle line of play clothes and pajamas. You can see Mabel’s cute little butterfly shirt (above) from The Very Hungry Caterpillar. When I showed it to her for the first time she screamed, “BUTTERFLY!” and ran off with it. 🙂 Score one for mom!

Now as Mabel’s day winds down, it doesn’t mean her creativity and imagination do! We have a set nightly routine for bedtime that I like to think continues to help her grow. 🙂 My husband is actually in charge of bedtime and our logic behind that is since I’m with her all day, it’s nice to give him some special one on one time with her.
Time to brush the toofers!
I don’t think I’ll ever get over feeling all mushy inside when I see him doing sweet things with her. And how cute are her Very Hungry Caterpillar jammies?
Now onto reading books while getting all tucked in…she will seriously freak out if you try to get away without reading to her.
And yes that’s a pacifier…shame on us, but this move did a number on her so she kind of reverted back to needing it again. Don’t worry…were working on getting it away from her…
Miss Mabel can normally get her Daddy to read 3-4 books before calling it a night. 🙂 And as a mom and teacher I really am thrilled with how much she seems to enjoy books.
If your little one is an Eric Carle fan, I highly suggest checking out your local Gymboree or visiting their Eric Carle section online. From lots of cute pjs to clothes, to free activity downloads, to even a fun little iPhone app with Caterpillar games on it…there’s a lot to see!
