I’ve been struggling with bad skin since I was about fourteen years old and everything seemed to get worse after the birth of my daughter a few months ago. I’m twenty six and I keep thinking: this shouldn’t be happening at my age! I can’t tell you how much money I’ve spent on every face wash, face cream, or face gizmo in hopes that it might help rid me of my acne and red marks from old blemishes. Nothing worked…The other issue I had was patches of dry skin that regular exfoliates wouldn’t get rid of. No matter how much I scrubbed, I would still have little patches of dry skin that would only look worse when covered with liquid foundation (you know how it gets caked in the dry skin and then makes it look even more noticeable!).
A few weeks ago when I was given the chance to try out the PMD Personal Microderm, I figured why not try it out since I had nothing to lose. Before receiving my Personal Microderm in the mail, I spent a lot of time looking over their website. I watched all the video clips, looked at the before and after pics, and I have to admit that I was pretty impressed that it had been features on Good Morning America, Dr. Oz, The Doctors and Extra.
And then it showed up in the mail…and this is what greeted me when I opened the box:
What I found inside:
1 Personal Microderm
7 exfoliating discs (1 white training, 2 green (medium) and and 4 blue(sensitive))
1 electric cord
1 facial cap
1 body cap
1 reusable filter
Instructional dvd and pamphlet
First off, let me explain what microdermabrasion is: the exfoliation of the outermost layer of skin on your face (or anywhere on your body you choose to do it). This outer layer of skin is where you see imperfections such as scaring, acne marks, and lines/wrinkles. When using microdermabrasion to remove the top layer of skin, you body speeds healing to that part of your skin with healthy, new skin cells. So the benefits one can have from microdermabrasion is smoother texture and softer appearance in lines, wrinkles and scaring. Lastly, the vacuum suction that is a part of microdermabrasion helps to clear out the pores, which can reduce acne. This last little bit was my main objective and what I was hoping would work for me!
Before using my new Personal Microderm, I was sure to watch the instructional video:
Then I got right down to business…and yes, I was nervous the first time I used it. But quickly realized that if I followed the directions as stated in the video that it was quite easy!
This is what it looks like up close:
And this is what an exfoliating discs looks along with the vacuum suction area:
I’ve used it three times within the past 3 1/2 weeks and have noticed good results. I used the blue disc the first two times (blue are the ‘sensitive’ discs) and then the most recent use, I tried the green disc (green are mediums) with nice results.
I only wish I had taken ‘before’ photos to show you them along with my after:
Now, I know my skin isn’t perfect but there has been a big reduction in the amount of blemishes that I’ve been dealing with over the past three weeks. I’ve found that the PMD has also helped to reduce the redness in the marks that are left behind after a blemish heals. Lastly, the horrible dry patches of skin that had been making it really difficult to apply liquid foundation have pretty much gone away! I think with continuous use of the PMD my skin will continue to improve! My face feels smoother, my dry patches of skin are easy exfoliated off, and my acne is improving…slowly but surely!
