If you’re anything like me, the holiday season is full of cooking and baking…I love it!
This was a second Thanksgiving dinner…yes, second! Lol! We have a big family, what can I say?
Green Bean Casserole, my Hearty Mac and Cheese (recipe here), cranberries, ham, brown sugar sweet potato bake, and mashed potatoes…yum! And all of my baked dishes started off with greasing the dish with PAM! It’s an added bonus with as many calories as I’m eating this holiday season that at least the cooking spray has zero calories per serving!
Now after eating comes the dreaded part = cleaning up.
But there are ways to make tackling those pots and pans easier! Did you know that PAM can be used in multiple ways?! Not only is it used to grease dishes before cooking to make sure that food doesn’t stick, you can also use it to spray in mixing bowls and on serving utensils to make cleanup even quicker! Butter and other brands leave too much reside that takes even more time to clean off…no thanks!
Let’s get to what you’ve all been waiting for…the dessert recipe!
Southern Chess Cake
Adapted from AllRecipes.com
Ingredients
- 1 pack of yellow cake mix (standard 18.25 oz size)
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup of softened butter
- 1 8 0z pack of cream cheese
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease a 9×13 baking dish with PAM.
- In a large bowl mix cake mix, 1 egg, and softened butter together. Then take the batter and pour into the greased 9×13 dish. Pat down evenly (I used my fingers).
- In another large mixing bowl mix together cream cheese, 2 eggs, and powdered sugar. I added the powdered sugar slowly and I used an electric mixer…makes things so much easier! Now evenly pour the cheese mixture over the cake batter.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes until the edges of your cake are golden brown. The center will still be a little jiggly. 🙂
Look at all of the gooey goodness….mmmmm!

This looks AMAZING! I use pam to bake pies….would love to make an apple cinnamon pie for Christmas in this dish!!!
This is awesome, and the recipe looks yummmmmmmy. 🙂 I would love to bake something savory in that dish. Like a Spagetti Pie. Yum-O.
I would try my hand at a cranberry crumble! I’d be sure to use PAM so it wouldn’t stick!
Now I’m hungry! I use PAM for all of my baking, and I would love to use that pie dish to make my mom’s famous strawberry pie.
Oh that pie looks sooo good! I’ve never had chess pie! I use Pam in my measuring cups when I need to add molasses or honey to a recipe. They just flow right out of the cups 🙂 The first thing I’d bake in the pie plate would be Mr. B’s favorite, Sour Cream Raisin Pie!
Oh my gosh, YUM! YUM! I’d bake apple pie in mine! And PAM is THE BEST! Seriously!
I’m gonna try that recipe, it looks so yummy! I didn’t get any pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving so I would use that pie pan to make one for Christmas instead!
I would bake my grandma’s recipe for sour cream apple pie! I haven’t made apple pie yet this year, and I’m itching to do so:)
I love the pie dish! Something savory inside would be great…maybe a homemade chicken pot pie?! Pam makes clean-up in the kitchen a sinch! No scrubbing or soaking necessary!
The cake looks yummy. A spinach Quiche would bake beautifully in this pie dish.
This looks delish! I want to make it right now! I’d use it for cheesecake 🙂
I would make pumpkin pie first

Yummy!! I use Pam for everything! Mostly baking, but I love using it to keep things from sticking when I cook on the stove. I would make a pecan pie in that dish! 🙂
You have inspired me to make a Chess Cake. I’d love to see what wonderful goodie you made in that beautiful Le Creuset pie dish!
I use PAM for everything I cook honestly! Eggs, pancakes, baking, etc. I would totally use it for the chess cake because it looks so yummy!
I’d make 7 layer bars – I’m addicted to those right now 🙂
I use Pam whenever I bake anything that might stick to the pan – casseroles, cookies, breads, etc.
Pam makes baking so much easier! I would love to bake some holiday cheer up!
Ha ha ha I keep reading “chess” as “cheese”, oi! Looks delish! I would probably bake an actual cheesecake, lol!
Caramel apple pie! I can’t stop thinking about it!
I love making blackberry pie
Oh my! Looks so good!!
I would use the pie dish to make a delicious apple pie! Thanks for the giveaway!
That looks so yummy!! I would make pumpkin pie!
I use PAM on almost everything I cook. I recently learned that you can spray the crockpot to make cleaning up easier. What?! And I would love to make a dutch apple pie for my husband! That’s his favorite.
I use PAM for baking cakes and brownies. I would make my husbands favorite Strawberry Pie.
I use Pam when I fry my eggs! With a pie pan, my husband just told me I’d have to bake him a triple berry pie. I don’t know about that. Better start small, like some Rhodes cinnamon rolls. 🙂
I love to make tomato pie. It’s a savory pie with cheese and tomatoes and onions and basil. I use Pam a lot so the I’m not scraping off the bottom of the pan
I use pam for cooking my eggs or greasing a brownie pan. If I had this awesome pan I’d search on pinterest for the perfect recipe that Ive never before tried to make!
I’d bake an apple pear crisp just like I did on Thanksgiving!!
I’d use it to make cheesecake 🙂
Love Pam for protecting my baking sheets while making cookies and I’d attempt my first apple pie in the dish!
I use Pam for when I want to brown meat and don’t want to add any more oil to my recipe. I love pie and bringing a homemade one to family dinners, I only have one “fancy” deeper dish pie plate, which is what I bring. I’d love to have an extra deeper dish one, so I won’t have to wait for people to return my pie plates! (One time I waited a year and a half!)
This chess cake looks so yummy!!! This is the first thing that I would make. After reading this recipe, I am SO craving something like this! (Ohhhh pregnancy) =] PAM…is awesome for everything. Pretty much anything that goes in the oven gets sprayed with PAM first.
I’d probably make an apple pie with that! I might also look for a scrumptious appetizer that would work with that as well.
I would use it to make more desserts! I’ve been working on adapting a few family recipes and I’d love some good cookware to perfect my recipes!
I use Pam when grilling out. I would cook up some yummy cinnamon rolls or a French toast bake for Christmas morning.
If I would win I’d make chicken pot pie in this! Yummo! By the way I don’t personally know you or how I found your blog… but love reading what you post about being a military wife and a mom! God bless
I need that pie dish for a sugar cream pie, which no one else in Florida seems to have knowledge of!
Aww my husband LOVES this dessert!!! I’d use Pam to make sure everything came out of this beautiful dish without hassle. Making my life ally easier. 🙂 Beautiful spread Morgan!
Yummy apple pie!! 🙂 The one you made looks good!
I would make yummy apple pie, or maybe pecan.
EVERYTHING looks delicious!! We use Pam daily. My favorite is the baking spray! clean up is a cinch. 🙂 Would love to win the pie dish. I currently don’t have one so I’d bake a pie if I did.
I’ve never made a pie before so if I won I guess it would force me to try! 🙂 My husband loves apple pie so I’d probably start with that and hope for the best! But then I’d have to make a chocolate pie for myself, of course! 🙂
We use the PAM for grilling a lot! That dish looks perfect to bake my peacan pie in! 🙂
I would bake an apple pie….they are soo yummy!
I used Pam just this weekend to bake cranberry bars!
Thank you for the recipe and giveaway! I use PAM all the time in my baked dishes to make clean-up a breeze! If I won, I would use the pie dish to make chicken pot pie.
Looks delish! I would love to use this pie dish for an apple pie!
I would bake a rhubarb crumble in the dish.
I have been wanting to bake apple pie for AGES! This would be great!
