The Gift of Reading

With the holidays quickly approaching, I’m reminded of when I was little and the excitement I felt when Christmas was right around the corner.  I was always on my best behavior since I knew Santa would be watching.  😉

One of our family traditions was always setting out cookies and milk for Santa, like I’m sure so many other little kids out there do.  And every Christmas morning, there would be crumbs lefts on the plate and the milk would be gone….it was magical for me.

I know how important traditions can be so since last year was Mabel’s first Christmas, my husband and I were sure to start a new tradition of our own with her.  Each Christmas she receives a book and inside there is a note from both me and her father.  I figured it is a great way to get her excited about reading and when she’s older, she’ll have a book from each year with a unique note inside written to her.  The elementary school teacher in me was pretty excited about this tradition, lol!

Our book tradition
This was the book and the inscription we wrote to Mabel for last Christmas (2012).

Since we’re already preparing for the holidays, we’ve decided that this year one of Mabel’s gifts will be My Night Before Christmas.  It’s a very adorable book from MyChronicleBooks that lets you personalize the story specifically for your child.  We’ll get to add Mabel’s name, birthday, gender, photo, favorite pet and hometown to the book…which I think is an extra special way for her to look back on and learn about this time of her life (since she’ll be too young to remember it and we’ll have had a bunch of military moves by the time she’s in high school!).

I don’t have our actual book in hand yet since I’ll be ordering it as soon as we get back from vacation but I wanted to share some examples from other kiddos’ books:

Personalized Hometown
Personalize the hometown in your child’s book.

Personalized Name
Add your child’s name.  🙂
Personalized Photo and Note from Mom and Dad...so sweet!
And even include your little one’s photo and a note from you!

I can’t wait to see the look on her face when she turns the page and sees her own photo!  She’s going to love it!  And I’m so excited to continue on our Christmas book tradition…there honestly is no better gift than a book.  🙂

And a heads up!  MyChronicleBooks is currently offering 30% off of your next purchase hereThe discount code that you’ll receive is good for the entire next year!
