What’s Been Going On?

I’ve been in pain.

Ouch.

If you remember in the last post I talked about my knees starting to hurt.  Well…since then, my right one has been pretty darn uncomfortable.  Kneeling hurts, extending my leg fully hurts, and slightly turning while keeping my leg planted hurts.  I’ve cut out running until it starts to feel better, went and got fitted for running shoes that actually fit my gait (there will be a post on that later), and I’m frustrated that all the progress I had made will go out the window.  So now I will wait until my knee feels better…

Millie news:

3 month millie baby

She’s as chubby and happy as ever.

Except over the past few days, Little Miss has decided she wants to feed pretty much every hour.  That doesn’t make for a good night’s sleep for me…but I’m coping.  I just need a mandatory cup of strong coffee in the morning.

Mabel…well, she’s in the midst of being a threenager.  And I’m dreading how bad the true teenage years.

Annnnd this:

baby sparrow in a nest

These little guys hatched (there are 4 total) and it’s been a pretty neat little piece of nature to watch for all of us.  Mabel has been particularly obsessed…watching the mom/dad build the nest, sit on the nest and then seeing the little baby bird heads poking out of the nest when food arrives over the past few weeks.

The pain will come after the birds leave and it’s our job to clean off the massive pile of bird poop from our porch.  -_-

I’m so sorry to hear about your knees. I hope you have a quick recovery! That nest is awesome! Carter loves watching stuff like that!

Thanks Liz! My knees felt a little better when I woke up today so fingers crossed that within a few days they will be back to normal! 🙂 As for the nest, I’m happy that Mabel has gotten the chance to see the entire process…she just thinks that they are chickens, lol!

Ouch! Sorry to hear about your knees hurting, definitely sounds like Runner’s Knee. Better running shoes that fit your foot will definitely help, but I also suggest icing your knee, compressing your knee with either an ace bandage or one of those knee sleeves, and using an anti-inflammatory if you can (obviously talk with your dr first since you are breastfeeding). Of course, making sure you are really getting a good stretch before you start running is beneficial as well. 🙂

I used to be a 5K and 10K runner, I have had 3 knee surgeries since I was 21 (now 33) and have seen many orthopedist and PTs trying to change my foot strike and even switch to minimalist shows, only running on dirt, etc…unfortunately I have I can no longer run. The swelling and arthritis in my knee makes in unbearable. My Ortho told me that each step you take while running if 8 times your body weight in impact…EACH STEP! I switched to swimming and cycling. It has taken me over a year to stop missing running and fall in love with other sports, but it’s worth it now to have the constant pain and swelling. Good luck.
