World Play-Doh Day

Play-Doh!

I’ll admit that I love the feel and scent of it.  Reminds me of when I was a kid.

And Mabel can’t get enough of it…she has been begging to play with it ever since she saw the Super Color Pack arrive at our house a week ago.  Finally, the time had come yesterday morning.  😉

See that face of hers?  Lol, pure excitement!

Personally, I really enjoy creating family crafts and I think it’s a great way for us to all spend time together and bond.  So our mission today was creating a Play-Doh Sculpt to submit for World Play-Doh Day on September 16th!  Basically our challenge was to create something together that would show off national pride.

We decided on making a scene from Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  Mabel remembers our trip there and loves going hiking so it seemed like an easy choice!

I created the basic background and then my husband and Mabel got to work on creating animals to fill it!

They talked about colors and shapes (hey, you gotta take advantage of any educational opportunity, lol!).  The first thing they created were orange fish to put in the stream.  And then Mabel made snake after snake to put in the grass.  She is currently going through a snake obsession…

She made two baby snakes, a mommy and a daddy snake, and then a ‘Honey’ snake, which is her grandmother.  🙂  Too cute.

Then my husband suggested they make some cars to ‘drive through’ the park.  He made the car body and Mabel was in charge of the wheels.  She yelled, “CIRCLES”.  Yep!

It was a ton of fun for all of us!  And I’ll add that Miss Millie was taking a nap so it was nice to be able to spend a good chunk of time solely devoted to playing with Mabel.

So are you ready to see our final creation?
Here’s our Play-Doh Sculpt of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  🙂

Three fish, five giant snakes, a lopsided brown tent, two cars…and that bottom yellow thing is a bunny…which we have my husband to thank for that one. 😉

Mabel loves it.  My husband loves it.  I love it.
