A Holiday Cup of Coffee – Comfort and Joy

—————————————————————————————————————

Growing up I always remember the coffee maker as a key fixture in our household, especially around the holidays when everyone was home and off from work.  I can still hear the coffee dripping into the carafe and the rich smell wafting throughout the house.  My parents would always enjoy a cup (or two) in the morning and I fondly remember their large collection of coffee mugs.

As you probably already know, scents can have a powerful way of transporting you to another place or time through memories.  Coffee is one of those scents for me.  This must sound so silly!  But the aroma of coffee instantly sends me back to a simpler time of when I was younger, the comfort of my family and my childhood home.

I even remember on Christmas morning (several years to be exact!) that my parents would make sure to turn the coffee maker on before we could begin the festivities at our tree and the exchanging of gifts to one another.  This was something I didn’t understand the importance of at the ripe old age of seven at 6 in the morning (I can’t believe I would wake up that early!)…but now I certainly understand after having a daughter of my own and waking up early on a daily basis.

As I’ve grown up and started a family of my own, I’ve become a coffee drinker myself.  Nothing is better than on a chilly morning wrapping my hands around a warm mug filled with Pumpkin Spice coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts (since I can make it at home rather than driving to the store, that’s an added perk!)  Whether it’s a morning pick me up or just a moment in my day to enjoy and relax, coffee for sure is my little reward.  Especially during the holiday season when we all need a moment to slow down and soak everything in!

And I’ll be the first one to admit that as soon as fall rolls around I start scouring the local grocery store to see if Pumpkin Spice and the other Dunkin’ Donuts holiday flavors (Gingerbread Cookie and Mocha Mint) have arrived.  This year, the holiday flavors even have cute little gift cards on them so that you can surprise your holiday party hostess with a bag.  Easy and simple!

Since these are seasonal flavors and seem to disappear off the shelves very quickly, I always stock up.  Yeah, I’m the girl still drinking Pumpkin Spice coffee in the spring since I buy so much of it when it comes out.  Come see me if you need a hook-up of Pumpkin Spice in March!  Ha!

This is what I enjoyed this morning!

With the winter quickly approaching, I look forward to my first holiday season as a mother.  I can’t wait to continue old traditions while creating some new ones too!  And I’m sure there will plenty of mornings (even Christmas morning) with sounds and aromas of coffee brewing in my house just like it was when I was growing up.

Do you have any scents that instantly transport you somewhere or remind you of something special?  What’s your favorite thing to treat yourself to around the holidays?  Leave me a comment below!  🙂
