Stardrops Quilt Pattern

Meet my newest fat quarter friendly quilt pattern: Stardrops! I released this pattern last week and it’s available in the shop.

I absolutely adore tons of bright colors and this first version of the Stardrops quilt just seems to twinkle, doesn’t it? All the fabrics in it are from the Speckled collection by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society. If you want to make the same version, you’re in luck since I kept track of all of the shades:  Candy Pink, Sorbet, Strawberry, Peach, Festive, Sunshine, Earth, Clementine, Burnt Orange, Cayenne, Purple Velvet, Witchy, Berry, Daisy, Peony and Metallic White Gold for the background.

The Stardrops quilt pattern is made specifically for fat quarters and scraps, so it’s perfect for adding as many fun prints and colors as you want! It’s great for confident beginners and includes instructions for 4 different quilt sizes: baby/child throw, square throw, rectangular throw and bed.

I couldn’t stop myself with making just one rectangular throw…so I made two! Actually, both of my daughters asked for their own quilt after seeing my first draft of the pattern. My youngest insisted on the bright pink/purple/orange/yellow one and my oldest decided she wanted one with a dark background full of blues and greens. This was the end result:

I can’t believe how awesome it looks with a dark background! My oldest helped pick all of the prints from my fq stash (they are all Ruby Star Society from a bunch of different collections and some were pretty old, lol!) and I wasn’t sure how it was going to look altogether but it’s got such a vibrant punch! I love it! I really must step outside of my comfort zone more often.

The mushrooms and the sheep have to be my favorite prints in this entire quilt…but all of them are lovely together.

Both quilt tops are currently waiting to be completed but I promise to post updates once they are done. I’ve ordered backing for one, so I should be able to finish the first version soon. It takes a bit longer for fabric to arrive to us here in South Korea from the US so I’ve had to learn to be patient. And of course my oldest picked a print for her backing that hasn’t released yet…so we’re waiting until that fabric is in stock next month.

If you like quilts with dark background, I have Jenny of La Bizarra Keepsake Quilts‘ two sample Stardrops quilts to share with you too:

Jenny creates a ton of stunning quilts so I highly suggest finding her over on her Instagram page @AristotleFace.

And finally, if you haven’t seen enough versions of the new Stardrops quilt, I’ve got three more mockups to show you how versatile it is:

Stardrops Quilt in Picture Book by Kim Kight for Ruby Star Society.
Stardrops Quilt in Speckled by Rashida Coleman-Hale for Ruby Star Society.
Stardrops Quilt in Meadow Star by Alexia Marcelle Abegg for Ruby Star Society.

If you’re ready to get started on your own Stardrops, it’s waiting for you in the shop HERE and I can’t wait to see what you make!
